Reading the field with the disc in your hand is an art! And something that noone is really taught. Some players look all over the place, back and forth. Some panic and lock in to one spot for 9 seconds. 

In this video Rowan demonstrates how to anticipate where to look even before you get the disc, and to properly apply progressions in modern ultimate. In the past, there was “4 seconds downfield, then find a dump”. But that is old news. It’s a subtle, nuanced approach now.
